First Week at Home

April 20th, 2013 - We were incredibly nervous about bringing Felix home. It wasn't going to be easy without the help of a nurse 24 hours a day, but we were also ready to get out - I hadn't left my room in 2 days. Here he is in his going home outfit. He wasn't looking so great because he developed a bad case of newborn rash all over his body and he had scratched up his face before we put mittens on him.

The car ride home was especially nerve-wracking. We felt like every vehicle on the road was just waiting to plow into us. I sat in the back with the baby, cradling his head in my hands to protect him from the oh so violent speed bumps, stops, and accelerations.

Once we got home we weren't quite sure what to do next! We learned pretty quickly that Felix would let us know what we needed to do next... The first few days were a blur of changing and feeding, with not a lot of sleep in between. Thank goodness my mom stayed with us the first two days. She made us a delicious dinner and brought it upstairs to us in bed while the baby slept, which was just wonderful.

The next few days, we started to sort of figure him out a little more and he started to open his eyes a little more and take in the world around him.

It's a little early for a smile, but we'll take it!

Felix had his first trip out of the house today! We took him to Panera for lunch and walked through Barnes & Noble. It was nice to just get out of the house!

His little frog legs always kick off the blankets!
